Deck

The fun way to make words stick.

Flashcards you answer by typing. Deck decides which word to show you next, and when to bring it back.

What can I learn?

Anything that fits on the two sides of a card, as words or short phrases.

How do I start?

Type your words in, import a spreadsheet, or copy one of the public decks.

Are there ready-made decks?

Yes. Browse the public decks and copy one to your library to start straight away.

Why type the answer?

Remembering a word is harder than recognising it, and that effort is what makes it stick. Deck checks your answer and shows exactly what you got wrong.

What if I make a typo?

While a word is new, small typos and missing accents can be forgiven, and shown so you can see them. As you improve, Deck gets stricter.

How does it choose what to show?

New words arrive a few at a time. Words you miss come back soon; words you know well rest. Later, Review brings back older words before you forget them.

What decides the next word?

A statistical model. Deck weighs every word by how well you know it and draws the next one by probability, a method tuned over thousands of simulated study sessions. Review uses FSRS, a modern memory model that predicts when you’re about to forget each word.

Why two directions?

Recognising a word and producing it are different skills, so each direction of a deck is tracked separately.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Type with the on-screen keyboard, or just reveal the answer and say whether you remembered it. Typing helps more.

Where does it run?

In your browser, on any device. Your decks go with you.

What if I lose my connection?

Keep studying. Your progress is saved on the device and synced when you’re back online.

Is my data mine?

Yes. Export your decks any time, and delete your account whenever you want. Your data is never sold.

What's not in it?

No social features and no gamification. Deck is minimalistic by design.
